Girl Power Music Playlist

There are so many female artists out right now that are unapologetic and real. Who write about real issues with such authenticity. They are cool, and badass, and individual.

I think it’s important to listen to them, to support their music, and to hear what they have to say.  So I’ve created this fun girl power playlist of some of my favorite badass female artists.

Cause, GIRL POWER!

1.  Weaker Girl by Banks

Genre: Alternative

Tell me what you want from me
I think you need a weaker girl
Kind of like the girl I used to be
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I’ma let you do what you wanna do
I’ma let you say what you wanna say
‘Cause I’ma need a bad motherfucker like me

I let you go
You can tell them something ’bout the way you moved on
I let you go
Tell them you were mad about the way I grew strong
Oh, nah, nah
I think you need a weaker girl, yeah
‘Cause I’ma need a bad motherfucker like

2. I Owe You Nothing by Seinabo Sey

Genre: Soul, Pop

I don’t have to walk for you
I don’t have to talk to you
See, I’m not on display
Never was, never will ever be for you

I won’t help you understand
I don’t need no helping hand, no
See, these aren’t tears, this is the ocean
These aren’t fears, this is devotion

3. Juice by Lizzo

Genre: Pop

If I’m shinin’ everybody gonna shine (Yeah, I’m gold)
I was born like this, don’t even gotta try (Now you know)
I’m like chardonnay, get better over time (So you know)
Heard you say I’m not the baddest bitch, you lie (Haha)

Ain’t my fault that I’m out here gettin’ loose
Gotta blame it on the Goose
Gotta blame it on my juice, baby
Ain’t my fault that I’m out here makin’ news
I’m the pudding in the proof
Gotta blame it on my juice

4. 1950 by King Princess

Genre: Pop

I hate it when dudes try to chase me
But I love it when you try to save me
‘Cause I’m just a lady
I love it when we play 1950
It’s so cold that your stare’s ’bout to kill me
I’m surprised when you kiss me

So tell me why my gods look like you
And tell me why it’s wrong

5. God is a Woman by Ariana Grande

Genre: Pop

You, you love it how I move you
You love it how I touch you
My one, when all is said and done
You’ll believe God is a woman
And I, I feel it after midnight
A feeling that you can’t fight
My one, it lingers when we’re done
You’ll believe God is a woman, yeah, yeah

6. Woman by Cat Power (feat. Lana Del Rey)

Genre: Indie, Alternative, Rock

Your money’s like a weapon
Tool to get me
You think I’m like the other ones
Well, my money’s like a weapon (weapon)
Tool for me
No, I’m not like those other ones
Cage’s like a weapon
Tool for me
You think I’m like the other ones
Well, my cage is a weapon
It’s perfect for me
It’s the one suit that seem to not see

I’m a woman of my word
Now haven’t you heard?
My word’s the only thing I’ve needed
I’m a woman of my word
Now you have heard
My word’s the only thing I truly need

7. Running Up That Hill by Meg Myers

Genre: Alternative, Rock

You don’t want to hurt me
But see how deep the bullet lies
Unaware that I’m tearing you asunder
And there’s a thunder in our hearts, baby
There’s so much hate for the ones we love
Tell me we both matter, don’t we?

  1. You’ve got some great suggestions! Another one I have been obsessing over a bit lately that I believe would fit in here is White Flag by Bishop Briggs
