Is CeraVe Cruelty-Free?
Unfortunately, CeraVe is not cruelty-free. On their FAQ page, they offer a very vague response to their animal testing policies:
Given this vague response, we, the buyers, have no idea if this means that they test the ingredients, rather than the finished product, or if they employ third parties to do the animal testing for them.
And since “cruelty-free” has no legal definition, brands like this can make very general statements to convince buyers that they are more ethical than they really are.
Is CeraVe Sold in China?
Yes, CeraVe is sold in mainland China. And since animal testing is mandatory in that country, CeraVe’s products have to be tested on animals. You can review the countries that they sell in on their website here.
Is CeraVe Owned By a Parent Company?
CeraVe is owned by L’Oréal, although there are some cruelty-free companies owned by non cruelty-free companies, both CeraVe and L’Oréal test on animals.
Is CeraVe Vegan?
CeraVe does offer products free of animal ingredients in countries outside of the U.S. They also announced that they plan on making 90% of their products vegan in the near future. But there hasn’t been much more information offered than that.
Is CeraVe Certified Cruelty-free and Vegan?
No, CeraVe is not certified by any cruelty-free or vegan organizations. Learn more about these certifications here.
Vegan and Cruelty-Free Alternatives to CeraVe
CeraVe gets a thumbs down on their vague and misleading policies. It best be avoided if you’re looking for skincare products free of both animal ingredients and animal testing.
But luckily there are many vegan and cruelty-free CeraVe alternatives that you can switch to instead. Happy shopping!
