Is Garnier Cruelty-Free, Vegan, and Eco-Friendly?
Is Garnier cruelty-free and vegan? Are they eco-friendly? Let’s see where this popular drugstore company stands on creating ethical skin and haircare,
Is Garnier Cruelty-Free?
As of 2021, Garnier is officially cruelty-free and was certified by Leaping Bunny, the leading cruelty-free organization. And this was exciting news! Because before being certified by Leaping Bunny, Garnier had some iffy animal testing policies.
Previously, the brand was certified cruelty-free by PETA’s program, Beauty Without Bunnies, but this program has lax regulations compared to Leaping Bunny. So, many people at the time didn’t consider Garnier to be truly cruelty-free. However, Garnier has since pulled through and is now considered officially cruelty-free!
Is Garnier Owned by a Parent Company?
Yes, Garnier is owned by L’Oréal. But this doesn’t effect their cruelty-free status.
Is Garnier Vegan?
Garnier is not fully vegan. However, they do offer a ton of vegan options. Just check the back of the packaging and look for the phrase “vegan formula”.
Is Garnier Eco-Friendly?
I was pleasantly surprised to see that Garnier has taken some initiative to make their brand more eco-friendly. So far, they’ve made a lot of their formulas almost 100% biodegradable, have used recycled plastic, cut down on the use of natural resources, and much more.
They also have a lot of sustainability goals set for the upcoming years. But whether or not they follow through is another story. So we’ll have to keep up-to-date on that.
Just always stay cautious when a big brand name is making these eco-claims. Sometimes they don’t always have the best intentions (aka, greenwashing).
However, Garnier seems to be doing a decent job trying to make their company more sustainable (compared to other mainstream brands). But I wouldn’t so be quick to call this brand eco-friendly.
A Final Note on Garnier’s Cruelty-Free, Vegan, and Eco-Friendly Policies
Since getting the seal of approval from Leaping Bunny, Garnier is now officially cruelty-free. Additionally, Garnier is not fully vegan, however they still do offer many vegan products.
It is an awesome achievement, and hopefully more drugstore brands follow suit because this would allow more people to access affordable cruelty-free and vegan products. Let’s go mainstream!
As for Garnier’s eco-friendly policies, they have made some strides towards sustainability. But they’re definitely not considered an eco-friendly brand.
All in all, Garnier is a great cruelty-free drugstore brand if you’re looking for affordable skin and hair products. Just make sure to check the packaging to see if it’s vegan!
