Purple Carrot Prepared Meals Review (Vegan Meal Delivery)
Recently, I tried out Purple Carrot’s prepared meals. Purple Carrot is a vegan meal delivery service where you can get meal kits or prepared meals sent right to your door. I had previously tried their meal kits and had a great experience, so I decided to try out their new vegan prepared meals as well. And here are my thoughts..
What is Purple Carrot Meal Delivery?
Purple Carrot is a vegan meal delivery service that offers both meal kits and prepared meals. It’s subscription based, so you order week by week. It’s also super easy to skip a week for whatever reason, or completely stop or start the service whenever you like.
Purple Carrot’s prepared meals subscription comes with 6 meals a week at $12.99 per meal. All you have to do once you receive your order is to store them in the refrigerator and heat them up in the microwave for a couple minutes when ready to eat.
The Purple Carrot Prepared Meals I Got:
- Creamy Mac n Cheese with Rosemary Butternut Squash x2
- Tofu Tikka Masala with Peas and Green Rice
- Italian Pasta Bowl with Bolognese and Ratatouille
- Herbed Risotto with Lemon Butter and Calabrian Broccolini
- Gnocchi Primavera with Artichokes and Pesto Tofu
I was surprised to see on the package that the meals only need to heat up in the microwave for 2 minutes. Even more surprising is that they were still tasty despite this minimal effort.
I had a previous bad experience with Veestro, another vegan prepared meal service, where every. single. meal was undercooked, bland, and awful. But with just 2 minutes in the microwave, the Purple Carrot meals all turned out great. So, I was impressed to say the least.
I’d say that one con of Purple Carrot’s prepared meals is that they’re all high calorie and high carb. Most of the meals were 500-600 or so calories, with 1 of them being in the 400s.
And all the meals expire in less than a week upon arrival. So, for me, I juggled trying to finish all the meals before the expiry date and fitting each meal into my everyday diet.
They also don’t have a large selection of meals to choose from. I went to purchase a 2nd week, but they offered almost the same exact meals I had before. And although they were good, I didn’t want another week of the same food.
Overall, I enjoyed my experience with Purple Carrot, and I loved how easy the meals were to prepare without sacrificing quality. I just wish they had a larger selection of meals to choose from and met a wider range of nutritional needs.
Would I Buy Purple Carrot Again?
As of right now, I don’t have any future Purple Carrot orders planned, simply because I need more variety. However, in the future I will probably start craving their mac n cheese or tofu pesto and order again.
Also, Purple Carrot’s prepared meal service is still new. So, I’m hopeful that they’ll add more variety in the future.
All in all, if you’re looking for a vegan meal service that’s quick and efficient, but doesn’t sacrifice on quality, then I’d say give Purple Carrot a go.
