What Reusable Silicone Bags I Went With
I went with the brand SPLF on Amazon. Each pack comes with a set of twelve (five sandwich bags, five snack bags, and two gallon bags). They’re free of any plastic, made with food-grade materials, and are dishwasher safe.
After four months of use, they’re held up tremendously well. They have no noticeable stains, odors, or flaws. Essentially, they work just like any old single-use bags. But are way sturdier and made with a thicker material, of course.

How I Use My Reusable Silicone Bags
I don’t use these bags for heavy cooking. But I do often use them as containers for my pre-made frozen foods (like frozen vegetables), and I’ve seen no decrease in the quality of the food.
No freezer burn here, folks!
I do get most use out of them for my snacks, and have found that they keep my homemade or leftover snacks fresh just like its plastic counterparts. And they don’t leave behind any odor either.
Here are some ways you can use silicone bags:
- Meal prepping
- Freezing Crockpot/Instant Pot meals
- Store leftovers
- Portion snacks
- Marinating
- Make a lunch to-go
- Dog treat storage
- Use in your carry-on luggage
Pros of Reusable Silicone Bags
1. Better For The Environment
Of course, the biggest benefit of reusable silicone bags is sustainability. Normal plastic bags are single-use, which leads to a lot of unnecessary plastic in landfill. Plastic that will stay on this planet for hundreds of years, mind you.
So reusable silicone bags make a way better, greener option.
2. It’s a One Time Purchase
With single-use bags, you’ll have to keep repurchasing them over and over again. With reusable bags, one purchase can last you many years.
3. Nicer Looking
This is subjective, but I do find reusable bags to be nicer looking than their plastic counterparts. They just look cool sitting on my pantry shelf, I’ll say.
Cons of Reusable Plastic Silicone Bags
1. More Upfront Costs
You have to put down more money for the initial cost of the bags, instead of buying cheaper single-use bags multiple times. But on the contrary, reusable bags will save you more money in the long run.
2. You Have to Wash Them
I’ve got to say, the biggest perk of using single-use items is the convenience. It’s a lot easier to toss a plastic bag in the trash, then it is to wash a reusable one.
(And that is why I opted for a dishwasher safe set.)
3. Can’t Be Recycled
There will come a time where my reusable bags are at the end of its life. And although silicone can be recycled, most curbside recycling doesn’t accept it. It is though, a more sustainable option than continuously throwing away plastic.

We purchased silicon bags about a year ago. Several have come apart at the seam and most have holes. We can still use the ones with holes for some things but they certainly didn’t last as long as I thought they should.
Dang that’s frustrating. Luckily mine are still holding up well.
